Relaxation Sounds to Unwind After a Long Day.

4 min readStill Places Studio

The working day rarely ends cleanly. The laptop closes, but the mind keeps turning things over. A small ritual helps draw the line — and sound is one of the simplest rituals there is.

A sound that marks the end of the day.

Play the same kind of ambience every evening and it becomes a cue: the day is done. Ocean waves, soft rain, a crackling fire — it matters less which one you choose than that you choose it consistently. Over a week or two, the sound itself starts to do the unwinding for you.

Warmth helps.

There is a reason fireplace scenes feel different from plain noise. The crackle is warm and irregular in a human way — small pops and shifts that feel alive without ever surprising you. Paired with distant waves, it fills a room the way a real fire does: you stop noticing it, and you would miss it if it stopped.

Short or long, both count.

Unwinding does not need an hour. Ten minutes with a calm scene while you make dinner or sit on the sofa is already a boundary. On slower evenings, let it run — long-form recordings are made to stay in the background as long as the evening lasts.

Start with the fireplace ambience collection for warm evenings, or the ocean collection when you want something cooler and steadier. A favourite for slow nights: our fireside scenes.
